Deity suggests an icon of sorts, an ethereal abstracted figure comprised of found and made materials that reference the domestic interior. This work articulates the artist’s on-going investigation of the domestic space as a complex site of conflicting states. Applying a Surrealist framework employed by artists such as Louise Bourgeois and Meret Oppenheim, this work explores the uncanny quality of the home; invoking intimacy and warmth, and at the same time uncertainty and precarity.
