Soft Fascinations was a new work produced for Altered States at Bayside Gallery, curated by Nicole Salvo and also featuring the work of Nicholas Folland, Time Silver and Elizabeth Willing.

The work consists of an encased tableau of pink soap forms, found objects and growing crystals depicting a curious terrain of ambiguous origin. Forms in this work are not easily identifiable but exist in a state of flux, in which multiple reference points overlap and intersect; material changes imperceptibly over time as it succumbs to the forces of nature.

This work considers the notion of the immanence of materials and the implication of one thing in another, such as spirit in matter or movement in stillness. Drawing on a range of influences including microbiology, alchemical practices and science fiction cinema, this work is part of on-going investigation into poetic relationships between materiality and the self, and the psychological implications of the material encounter.
